Today, I was with Katie and Taylor went missing and I got grilled for it.... again. Apparently, Carmen San Diego, you can retire. Detective Payton is on the case!
Chris was there. His intense focus was disconcerting in its truthfulness. He fears himself, and for what, I have few (but very plausible) guesses. Telling him would be useless. Katie was there. He would reject and she would help, and he'd smile, laugh, and throw it away. That's what he does when it's him, not someone else, in trouble.
Instead, I borrowed a Pen and pencil from God's house and wrote, "There is nothing wrong with you" in my prettiest legible hand, folded it, wrote ''Chris'' in capital letters across the front, and gave it to him.
"Open it later and think about it," I said, hugging him. "Think hard about it."
Later, his text message said that he was surprised to hear it from me.... how had I known? .... and it'd made his day....
I told him how to put it up on his wall. I told him, whenever he is sad or angry at himself, he should look at it. He should know I'm telling the truth.
I don't think he'll listen.
He has listened. Trust me.
ReplyDeleteWe working through it but you helped.
